Chinese Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao met in Beijing Wednesday with Danish Minister of Defense Svend Aage Jensby and his party.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries more than 50 years ago, Wen said, China and Denmark have had smooth running exchanges and cooperation in political, economic and trade, cultural and scientific and technological fields.

Wen said he hopes that the two armies will further their friendly relations, which would benefit the overall development of friendship between the two countries.

Wen also briefed the Danish defense minister on the domestic situation in China and the Chinese government's principled stand on the Taiwan issue.

Noting that China has been playing an increasingly important role internationally and in the region, Jensby said that the increased exchanges and closer links between Denmark and China and their armies will contribute to world peace.
