Hong Kong Athletes Apply for Olympic Scholarships
Eight Hong Kong athletes have applied for Olympic scholarships, a fund set up by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to finance young sportsmen and women all over the world in their preparations for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
Eight Hong Kong athletes have applied for Olympic scholarships, a fund set up by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to finance young sportsmen and women all over the world in their preparations for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
The results of the applications will be announced in August.
The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China,said here on Tuesday that it had recommended the athletes to the IOC Athens 2004 Program, which had been developed by Olympic Solidarity.
The athletes are Cheung Yuk (table tennis), Ho Chi Ho (windsurfing), Ho Siu Lun (cycling), Ng Wei (badminton), Lee Chi Wo(triathlon), Law Hiu Fung (rowing), Chan Wing Suet (swimming) and Chiang Wai Hung (track and field).
The budget allocated for this program is 13,700,000 US dollars.Successful candidates would be provided with access to appropriate
training facilities, a coach specialized in the relevant sporting discipline, regular medical and scientific assistance and control,accident and illness insurance, board and lodging costs and adequate pocket money.
All 199 national or regional Olympic Committees recognized by the IOC are eligible to apply for the scholarships.
