New Zealand Deputy PM Meets Senior Chinese Official

New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton Tuesday morning met with Wu Guanzheng, a senior Chinese official who was in Wellington as guest of the New Zealand government.

New Zealand Deputy Prime Minister Jim Anderton Tuesday morning met with Wu Guanzheng, a senior Chinese official who was in Wellington as guest of the New Zealand government.

During the meeting, Anderton and Wu, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China ( CPC) and also the secretary of the CPC Shandong Provincial Committee, had a friendly conversation.

Wu said he was very glad to be here to exchange views with New Zealand leaders on issues of common concern and learn from New Zealand's experience in developing its economy at the time when the two countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations.

China values its friendly ties of cooperation with New Zealand and seeks for steady expansion of their exchange and cooperation in various fields, he said.

"We are ready to make common efforts with New Zealand to lift our bilateral relations to a new height," Wu said.

Anderton noted that New Zealand-China relations, which are based on mutual respect and mutual benefit, have been growing since the two countries established their diplomatic ties 30 years ago.

He stressed his country pays attention to the development of its relations with China, persist in One China policy, and would like to join China in their common efforts to expand channels and fields for their cooperation.

Anderton said the economic development of China is important to the future of the region where New Zealand and China are located.

On behalf of the New Zealand government, the deputy prime minister expressed condolences over the death of victims in the Chinese passenger airliner crash on Monday near the South Korean city of Pusan and also sympathy and solicitude for the families of the victims.

Wu Guanzheng began his visit to New Zealand last Thursday. He left New Zealand for Singapore after his meeting with Anderton.
