Bomb Blast Near Thai-Myanmar Friendship Bridge Kills 7

Seven people were killed and about 30 were injured in the blast of a bomb planted on a three- wheel motorcycle in a Myanmar town near Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge, a local source reported Tuesday.

Seven people were killed and about 30 were injured in the blast of a bomb planted on a three- wheel motorcycle in a Myanmar town near Thai-Myanmar friendship bridge, a local source reported Tuesday.

According to the source, the explosion took place at about 5:15 p.m. Monday in Myawaddy town which is opposite the Mae Sod town of Thailand, 730 kilometers north from Bangkok.

The victims, most of whom were villagers joining the Songkran Festival bazaar near the bridge, had been taken to the hospital in Myawaddy and the Myanmar authorities also kept the border checkpoint at the bridge open in order to send the seriously injured persons to be treated in Thai side in time, the source said.
