Turkey condemned Friday's suicide bombing attack in Jerusalem, while renewing its call for Israel to withdraw its troops from the Palestinian areas in the West Bank, reported the Anatolia News Agency.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Turkey harshly condemns the suicide bombing attacks which were staged nearHaifa on Wednesday and in Jerusalem Friday, killing innocent people.

The statement noted that the suicide bombing in Jerusalem occurred at a time when the U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell was in the region on peace mission with the backing of the international community.

"Turkey would like once more to stress its views that such suicide attacks which do not serve the Palestinian cause should immediately be ended, ceasefire should be ensured, Israeli forces should withdraw from the territories it has occupied, and sides should return to the negotiation table as soon as possible," the statement said.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, an armed wing of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement, has claimed responsibility for the day's blast, which killed six people and wounded some 70 others.

The Israeli government has identified the suicide bomber as a young woman, the third female Palestinian to have carried out a suicide bombing in Israel in the past weeks.
