Beijing is to vigorously develop chain-store commerce and logistics in the next eight years, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce.
By the year of 2010, the national capital will be blessed with an efficient online logistics network, consisting of 17 different logistics centers, which will not only cover the whole of Beijing, but also have some impact on the Bohai Economic Rim.
In a move to support the commercial development blueprint, Beijing will kick off construction of a terminal base for logistics in the south of the city and speed up building of another logistics port at Shibalidian in the southeast this year, said commission sources.
In the meantime, cooperation among different logistics operators must be increased so that a socialized professional logistics network would be formed earlier than expected.
A total of 1.25 million people in Beijing have found jobs in the commercial sector, accounting for 20 percent of the city's work force.
The commercial sector earned more than 160 billion yuan (about 19.28 billion U.S. dollars) in sales and 10 billion yuan (about 1.21 billion U.S. dollars) in pre-tax profits last year, said local sources.
