Price-Offense Reporting on Five Hot Spots

Since the price-offense reporting center was established last year, 3,749 price-offense reporting phones have been opened through the hot line "12358" and 559 million yuan has been registered through economic sanction, 390 million yuan of which has been returned to consumers. The State Development Planning Commission released the news on April 10 that arbitrary education-related charge ranks first among the five hot spots.

The State Development Planning Commission released the news on April 10 that arbitrary education-related charge ranks first among the five hot spots.

  • An official from the commission said that complaints about indiscriminate education-related charges remained high in rural and urban areas and in institutions of higher learning. In rural primary and middle schools in particular, fees are collected under a multitude of names, such as fees for examination, making-up examination, making up missed lessons, remedial study, access to computers, doing lab experiment, water and electricity charges, and what not.

  • There are lots of problems relating to the charge of medical service fees and price of medicines, such as fees for operation, hospitalization, compulsory services and so on.

    As for medicine prices, the main issues are not implementing or delayed implementing the national price-cut scheme, selling medicine at above State-set price and fixing same price for the medicine made by non-GMP enterprises as for those made by GMP ones.

  • Thirdly, problems relating to fees of real estate and property management are outstanding.

  • The issues ranking fourth and fifth are rural electricity price and administration operational charge respectively.
