China's Entrepreneur Confidence Index Recovers

China's entrepreneur confidence index shook off the doldrums of the past three consecutive quarters and began to rally in the first quarter of 2002, official figures show.

China's entrepreneur confidence index shook off the doldrums of the past three consecutive quarters and began to rally in the first quarter of 2002, official figures show.

Figures released by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Tuesday showed that China's entrepreneur confidence index climbed 7.5 points to 118.8 points in the first quarter of 2002, indicating that entrepreneurs began to recover their confidence inthe growth of China's macro-economy.

Compared with the same period last year, the index of entrepreneur confidence dropped 3.2 points.

NBS figures also showed that entrepreneur confidence improved in various industrial sectors, including manufacturing, construction, transportation, storage, post and telecommunications,wholesale and retail, catering, real estate and social service. The confidence index of the real estate industry remained the highest of the sectors.

In the past quarter, managers of state-owned enterprises showedincreasing confidence in the outlook of the economy. Entrepreneur confidence in large, medium and small sized enterprises also saw steady growth.

The NBS predicts that the entrepreneur confidence index will maintain a steady growth to 120 points in the second quarter of this year.
