Li Peng Back Home From Japan, 'Visit a Success'

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), arrived in Beijing Tuesday afternoon, ending his week-long official good-willvisit to Japan.

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), arrived in Beijing Tuesday afternoon, ending his week-long official good-willvisit to Japan.

Li and his entourage were warmly received at the Great Hall of the People by Jiang Chunyun, vice-chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, State Councilor Luo Gan, Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee He Chunlin, Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan and Japanese Ambassador to China Koreshige Anami.

Among Li's entourage are his wife Zhu Lin, NPC Standing Committee vice-chairman Wang Guangying, and others.

FM Spokeswoman: Li's Japan Visit a Success
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Tuesday that the Japan visit of Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, was a success.

Zhang said that during his visit, Li exchanged views with Japanese leaders and people from all walks of life over issues of further promoting bilateral ties.

Both sides held that China and Japan were close neighbors, and it was the common wish of both peoples to realize eternal friendship, she said.

Zhang said they would further expand their exchanges and cooperation and promote the development of bilateral relations.
