Indian PM Arrives for Official Visit to Cambodia

Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived in Phnom Penh at 3:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday to pay a three-day official visit to Cambodia at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen.

Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee arrived in Phnom Penh at 3:15 p.m. local time on Tuesday topay a three-day official visit to Cambodia at the invitation of his Cambodian counterpart Hun Sen.

Prime Minister Hun Sen and other top government officials greeted Vajpayee at the airport.

The visit of the Indian prime minister is intended to strengthen the diplomatic relationship between the two countries, officials from the Indian embassy said.

Vajpayee and Hun Sen will have formal discussions on cultural, diplomatic and trade issues. In addition, several bilateral agreements are also expected to be signed during Vajpayee's visit.

The Indian prime minister will be granted a royal audience by King Norodom Sihanouk. He will also meet with Senate President Chea Sim and President of National Assembly Prince Norodom Ranaraiddh, respectively.
