Sri Lanka Launches First Ever Car

The first ever Sri Lanka manufactured car named "Micro", which has been designed, developedand prototyped locally by Transmec Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., was officially launched Monday.

The first ever Sri Lanka manufactured car named "Micro", which has been designed, developedand prototyped locally by Transmec Engineering (Pvt) Ltd., was officially launched Monday.

The car, still in pre-production status will be available later in the year.

Company sources said the car is an aerodynamically designed, ulta-light city car with seating for five. It has a dual fuel facility and its fiber body is free of corrosion.

Only the four-stroke engine and gear box are imported from Italy.

The project will produce 600 cars monthly. Over 3,000 direct jobs and 8,000 indirect jobs are expected to be provided by the company.
