Li Peng Feted in Kagoshima

The purpose of his visit to Japan is to celebrated the 30th anniversary of the normalization of relations between China and Japan and to push forward the development of the friendly relationship between the two countries, said Li Peng, chairman of China's National people's Congress Standing Committee.

The purpose of his visit to Japan is to celebrated the 30th anniversary of the normalization of relations between China and Japan and to push forward the development of the friendly relationship between the two countries, said Li Peng, chairman of China's National people's Congress Standing Committee.

In his speech at the dinner hosted in his honor Monday evening in Kagoshima by Kagoshima Prefecture Governor Tatsuro Suga, Li said, "The warm welcome I received during my current visit to Japan has showed that the peoples of China and Japan have a common wish to have a friendly relationship for the generations to come."

Kagoshima Prefecture is not far from China and is rich with natural recourses and he wishes the people of Kagoshima to build a beautiful homeland in the days to come, Li said.

Governor Suga told the Chinese guests that Li's visit to Kagoshima is a great honor for the people of Kagoshima.

Suga said this year is the 30th anniversary of the normalizationof relations between Japan and China, he wishes Li's visit would further enhance the cooperation between China and Kagoshima.

Before the dinner, Li and Suga held a brief conversation on Sino-Japanese relations. Speaker of the Kagoshima Parliament Koji Mizoguchi and other senior officials of the Prefecture were also present on the occasion.

Kagoshima is the last leg of Li's current week-long visit to Japan and he will be back home on Tuesday.
