Macao could become a springboard for Luxembourg businesses to enter China's inland market following China's access into the World Trade Organization (WTO), Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah noted here Monday.

In friendly talks with visiting Luxembourg Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker, the chief executive said that the visit would consolidate cooperation between the special administrative region (SAR) and Luxembourg.

China's WTO membership would not necessarily bring much benefitto Macao in a short or medium term, but would definitely help the SAR in the long run, Edmund Ho said.

He briefed the Luxembourg prime minister on the SAR's overall economic performance including opening of the gambling sector.

Juncker and his delegation visited a number of famous tourist spots in Macao this afternoon. They are set to conclude China tourTuesday morning.
