Sino-Greek relations in the fields of politics, economics and trade, science and technology, culture and education as well as military affairs have been expanding, said Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan Monday.

In a meeting with visiting Greek Foreign Minister George Papandreou, Tang said bilateral relations had been developing smoothly since the establishment of diplomatic relations 30 years ago.

China appreciated Greece's persistent stand on Taiwan, Tibet and human rights issues, said Tang, expressing China's wish to push forward cooperative relations by taking the chance of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Greece attached great importance to friendly relations with China in all fields, Papandreou said, adding that Greece wished tostrengthen political, economic, cultural and diplomatic exchanges and ties through cooperation on hosting the Olympic Games.

Greece was also willing to play a positive role in promoting European Union-China relations, he said.

Tang said the two countries would host the first two Olympic Games in the 21st century, providing a rare opportunity for the development of bilateral relations.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.

Papandreou came to China at the invitation of Tang.
