Top Seed Xia Advances to Japan Open Badminton Semi-finals
Top Seed Xia Xuanze of China edged his compatriot, ninth seed Chen Yua, 8-6, 7-1, 8-7, on Friday to advance to the semi-finals of the Yonex Japan Open Badminton Championships.

Xia will play unseeded Keita Masuda of Japan in the semi-finals. Masuda beat fifth seed Bao Chunlai of China 8-6, 7-2, 7-1.
In other quarter-finals, ninth seed Pulella Gopi Chand of Indonesia ousted Wu Yungong of China 7-8, 7-1, 8-6, 2-7, 7-5 and fifth seed Lee Yung Il of South Korea downed ninth seed Hashim Muhammad Hafiz of Malaysia 4-7, 7-4, 7-3, 8-7.
In the men's doubles quarter-finals, third seed Zhang Wei and Zhang Jun of China eliminated Flandy Limpele and Eng Hian of England 8-7, 2-7, 4-7, 7-5, 7-5.
In the semi-finals, the Chinese pair will take on second seed Chew Choon Eng and Chan Chong of Malaysia, who beat Cheng Rui and Wang Wei of China 7-8, 7-5, 7-2, 0-7, 7-2.
The other doubles semi-final pits fifth seed Lee Dong-Soo and Yoo Yong-Sung of South Korea against Choong Tan Fook and Lee San Wah of Malaysia.
In the women's singles quarter-finals, top seed and defending champion Zhou Mi of China downed her compatriot Chinese Hu Ting 7- 4, 7-3, 7-3. In the semi-finals, Zhou plays fifth seed Chen Wang of China's Hong Kong, who outclassed Gong Ruins of China 7-4, 8-6, 4-7, 3-7, 8-6.
The other semi-final was an all Chinese affairs, with third seed Zhang Ning playing fifth seed Dai Yun.
In the women's doubles quarter-finals, top-seeded Gao Ling and Huang Sui of China eliminated Tesana Chankrachangwong and Pramote Thjngthongkam of Thailand 7-2, 7-2, 8-6.
In the mixed doubles, top-seeded and No. 2 world second ranked Kim Dong-moon and Ra Kyung-min ousted Norio Imai and Chikako Nakayama of Japan 7-0, 7-0, 7-3 and advanced to the semi-finals.
