Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen said Tuesday that China is ready to make unremitting efforts along with Bulgaria to further bilateral cooperation in the policial, economic and other fields.

It is the consistent policy of the Chinese government to develop its long-term and stable traditional friendship and reciprocal cooperation with Bulgaria in a comprehensive way, said Qian during a meeting with visiting Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Passy.

Referring to the fact Bulgaria was one of the first countries to set up diplomatic ties with China, Qian noted that for more than 50 years, the two nations have forged a deep friendship and their bilateral relations have mostly moved forward.

He attributed the continuous development of Sino-Bulgarian relations to mutual respect, egalitarianism and non-interference in each other's internal affairs despite the fact that conditions in the two countries are different and each has developed in a different way.

Qian said China is pleased with Bulgaria's achievements in maintaining political stability and promoting economic growth, andwould like Bulgaria to play a greater and more positive role in safeguarding peace and stability in the Balkans.

Passy said the Bulgarian government attaches importance to its relations with China, highly values China's great achievements in its reform and opening-up drive and its important role in international affairs, and will maintain and deepen bilateral friendship and cooperation in the political, economic and culturalfields.

Passy reiterated the Bulgarian government's "one China" position and pledged not to have any official contact with Taiwan.

He went on to say that Bulgaria, a stable Balkans country, willcontinue to make efforts towards safeguarding regional peace and stability.
