'Seven-Point Game' to Be Played in Guangzhou Thomas and Uber Cup

The new "seven-point game" will be used in the Thomas and Uber Cup badminton competitions, which are slated from May 9-19 here, the organisers said on Tuesday.

The new "seven-point game" will be used in the Thomas and Uber Cup badminton competitions, which are slated from May 9-19 here, the organisers said on Tuesday.

Previous men's badminton game is played by 15 points while women's is played by 11 points.

"We are well prepared for the world elite badminton players to Guangzhou," said Zhang Huoying, the General Secretary of the organising committee. "They will enjoy one of the best Thomas and Uber Cup competitions ever."

A total of 260 players from 11 countries and regions will compete in the Thomas Cup, men's team competition, and Uber Cup, women's team competition, with each cup featuring eight teams.

Zhang, also general secretary of the Guangzhou government, saidthey also made the mascot for the tournament, the first one in thehistory of the event, as well as a tournament song.

Local and international companies show great intertes to the tournament, which is held for the first time in China, organisers said.
