The Shanghai-based China Shipping Group has opened a shipping route linking the Keelung Port of Taiwan with the west coast of the United States.
Five container ships each with a capacity of 5,500 to 5,700 containers have been put into operation on the marine route, whichwas launched Monday.
It is the first time that a shipping company from China's mainland has operated along such a route. Some people from Taiwan's shipping circles call the operation an "ice-breaking success."
Stringing the ports in Ningbo, Shanghai and Yantian in the mainland areas of China, and ports in Hong Kong, Keelung, Busan and Los Angeles, the entire voyage takes 11 days.
