Twelve passengers were slightly injured as a Delta Air Lines plane made an emergency landing in the state of North Carolina after a fire-warning light flashed in the cockpit, officials said Monday.

Passengers on the Sunday night flight from Atlanta to London reported see the flash of light and then felt the MD-11 jet shake as it drop altitude sharply. The pilot reported an engine fire when the plane was about 56 kilometers north of Charlotte, North Carolina, where the plane landed.

All passengers slid down inflatable exit chutes during the evacuation. Delta spokesman John Kennedy said Monday that there was no fire and federal officials were looking into the possibility that the flash of light was lightning. There were 245 people aboard.
