Persson Says Chinese Table Tennis is Huge Interest

Sweden's veteran table tennis player Jorgen Persson said Sunday in Stockholm that the Chinese table tennis has huge interest to him which made him decide to play there on a loan basis. "I am no longer young, so I can't afford missing good chances, "said the 35-year-old Swede. "Money is not the only thing I work for. I also need to prepare for my future life."

Sweden's veteran table tennis player Jorgen Persson said Sunday in Stockholm that the Chinese table tennis has huge interest to him which made him decide to play there on a loan basis.

The Swede, who was set to join China's Helongjiang Sanjing club this month, said that China is a completely different world in terms of the table tennis sport.

He was quoted as saying by Sunday's local paper said that table tennis has great following in this country with its league competitions televised nationwide.

Persson referred to the fact that table tennis in China has been the national pastime and brought home a great number of titles from world events.

All of China's elite players stay home, which has made the sport's level quite high in this country, he added.

Not only for money
Persson, who is expected to play 10-12 club matches starting from April 24, said that money is not his only concern when he chose to play for the Chinese club.

"I am no longer young, so I can't afford missing good chances, "said the 35-year-old Swede."Money is not the only thing I work for. I also need to prepare for my future life."

Before Persson joined the Chinese club, he has had spells in the leagues of Swede, Germany, France and Japan.

Persson is still keeping his top-fight form despite his age, and will possibly help Heilongjiang Sanjing to reign this season's premier league.
