Beijing Holds International Long Distance Run

More than 13,000 runners took part in the 2002 Beijing International Long Distance Run and Spring Long Distance Run on a sunny Saturday in Beijing.

More than 13,000 runners took part in the 2002 Beijing International Long Distance Run and Spring Long Distance Run on a sunny Saturday in Beijing.

Zhang Jian, spokesman of the Beijing Sports Bureau, said:"It can be called a festival for the running-lovers."

Three distance categories are set for the race -- five kilometers, 10km and the Open Group.

Zhang said:"There are more than 9,000 people running for the Open Group and some 3,000 in the competitive 5km and 10km events."

More than 100 overseas runners from 30 countries and regions appeared in the foreigner's event.

Phil Bush, who works in the Motorola company in Chicago in the Unites States and stays in Beijing for a four-day business visit, said:"I'm lucky to participate in the running race here today as I

will leave tomorrow. It's good to run with Chinese people on the streets in such a beautiful spring morning."

Teams organized by the event's sponsors the Beijing McDonald's Food Co. Ltd and the Stratus Technologies. Inc. also competed in the annual race.
