China Appoints New Ambassadors

President Jiang Zemin announced the appointment of 15 new ambassadors Monday in accordance with a decision made by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Zhang Dong was appointed ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Sudan, replacing Deng Shaoqin.

Li Qiangmin was appointed ambassador to Uganda, replacing Zhang Xujiang.

Sun Zhaotong was appointed ambassador to Niger, replacing Ji Jingyi.

Chen Yuming was appointed ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania, replacing Guan Hengguang.

Yu Zhenqi was appointed ambassador to Belarus, replacing Wu Xiaoqiu.

Zhang Xiyun was appointed ambassador to the Republic of Azerbaijan, replacing Zhang Guoqiang.

Zuo Xueliang was appointed ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, replacing Zhu Zhaoshun.

Xu Jianguo was appointed ambassador to Georgia, replacing Zhang Yongquan.

Zhang Zhi was appointed ambassador to Finland, replacing Lu Xinhua.

Gu Sicong was appointed ambassador to Samoa, replacing Wang Xinyuan.

Gao Shanhai was appointed ambassador to Tonga, replacing Zhang Binhua.

Gu Huaming was appointed ambassador to Saint Lucia, replacing Liang Jianming.

Song Tao was appointed ambassador to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, replacing Wu Zhenglong.



Zhang Yishan was appointed ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of the People's Republic of China to the United Nations, replacing Shen Guofang.

Zhang Yan was appointed as ambassador to the United Nations in Vienna and the country's representative to other international organizations, replacing Zhang Yishan.
