Meeting of CPPCC Nat'l Committee Standing Committee Ends

The 16th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee ended in Beijing Thursday. Over the last three days, the meeting approved a number of reports on key issues including personnel matters and the agenda for the coming annual session of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee, which is to begin on March 3.

The 16th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee ended in Beijing Thursday.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over and addressed the meeting.

Over the last three days, the meeting approved a number of reports on key issues including personnel matters and the agenda for the coming annual session of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee, which is to begin on March 3.

Nineteen people became new members of the CPPCC National Committee, while four members, Wang Meiyue, Bai Shangxian, Jin Shuzeng and Liu Deyuan, were expelled from the top advisory body for their violation of laws.

Also present at the closing session were 24 vice chairmen of the CPPCC National Committee.



Three days of CPPCC Nat'l Committee Standing Committee Meeting

The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened its 16th meeting Tuesday in Beijing.

It was decided at the meeting that the Fifth Session of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee will be inaugurated on March 3.

The three-day meeting, in preparation for the upcoming annual session of the top political advisory body, will hear and approve a number of briefings and reports on major issues related to the session.

Since the last annual session, 3,737 proposals on state issues have been put forward by CPPCC National Committee members, non-communist parties and NGOs, of which 3,566 have been handled according to official records.
