Jiang Zemin Arrives in Hanoi for Official Goodwill Visit

Chinese top leader Jiang Zemin arrives in Hanoi for a three-day official goodwill visit to Vietnam Wednesday.

Chinese President and General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Jiang Zemin arrived in Hanoi Wednesday noon for a three-day official goodwill visit to Vietnam.

He received warm welcome by high-ranking officials of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and the Vietnamese government at the airport.

In a written statement delivered upon his arrival at the international airport in Hanoi, Jiang expressed the belief that his visit will further enhance the mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between the two parties, the two countries and the two peoples.

He also expressed warm greetings and good wishes to the Vietnamese people at the beginning of his visit.

In the statement, Jiang said China and Vietnam are linked with land and waters and share long-standing friendship. In the past, the peoples of the two countries sympathized and supported each other during their struggles for national independence and liberalization, thus forming a strong friendship. Today, the two sides learn from each other and conduct cooperation of mutual benefits in the process of constructing their own countries, turning a new page on their traditional friendship.

He said at present, under the guiding principle of "long-term stability, orientation towards the future, good-neighborliness and friendship and all-round cooperation" as set by the state and party leaders of the two countries, China and Vietnam are carrying out active exchanges and deepening friendly cooperation in all areas.

"We are very pleased to see the relations between the two parties and the two countries have made fresh progress in all aspects," he said.

He expressed the belief that his visit will further enhance the mutual trust, friendship and cooperation between the two countries, the two peoples and the communist parties. The visit will also help promote the common prosperity and development of the two countries and make contributions to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

Jiang is visiting Vietnam at the invitation of Nong Duc Manh, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong. Later Wednesday afternoon, Jiang will hold talks with Nong Duc Manh and Tran Duc Luong and exchange views on Sino-Vietnamese relations and issues of common concern with them in an extensive way.

Chinese, Vietnamese Top Leaders Begin to Hold Talks
Chinese top leader Jiang Zemin began to hold talks with the Vietnamese Communist Party chief NongDuc Manh and Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong Wednesday afternoon.

Jiang, general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Chinese president, will exchange views on further development of bilateral relations and major regional and international issues of common concern with Manh and Luong.

At the moment, the talks are still going on.

After the talks, the top leaders of the two countries will attend the signing ceremony of two documents between the Chinese and Vietnamese governments.
