Li Peng Arrives in Macao SAR

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau ofthe Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), arrived here Saturday morning to visit the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Li's entourage included his wife Zhu Lin, Director of the HongKong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council Liao Hui, Deputy Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee Lu Congmin and Director of Li's Office Wu Wenchang.

At 10:00 am, Macao SAR Chief Executive Edmund Ho Hau Wah and his wife Tatiana Lau, and Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Macao SAR greeted Li and his party in Zhuhai, a city in Guangdong Province which borders the Macao SAR.

Afterwards, Li and his party were greeted at a hotel in the Macao SAR by local celebrities including Vice-Chairman Ma Man Kei of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, President Susana Chou of the Legislative Council, President Sam Hou Fai of Court of Final Appeal and Secretary Florinda Da Rosa Silva Chan for Administration and Justice of the Macao SAR government.

Among those who also greeted Li at the hotel were Special Commissioner Yuan Tao of Foreign Ministry in the Macao SAR and Commander Liu Yuejun of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA)Garrison Troops in the Macao SAR.
