Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), met Monday with Luis Gonzalez Posada, chairman of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Congress of Peru, and his party.

Li said that since China and Peru established diplomatic relations 30 years ago, the two countries have strengthened their cooperation in trade and economy, culture and science and technology.

The two sides have kept close cooperation in the international arena and deepened their mutual understanding. Peru has become China's largest trading partner in Latin America, Li said.

China was satisfied with the stable development of bilateral relations and hoped to continue friendly cooperation with Peru, Li said.

Li said that the Chinese NPC and the Peruvian Congress have maintained a good relationship with frequent high-profile visits.

As two developing countries, China and Peru should develop their cooperation further in the future, which would benefit both the Chinese and the Peruvians, Li said.

Gonzalez Posada said that Peru and China have traditionally had friendly relations.

The Peruvian government has always agreed with the "one China" policy, he said.

He said he hopes the Peruvian Congress and the Chinese NPC will enhance their cooperative relations in various fields.
