Ethiopian Foreign Minister, Somali Prime Minister Hold Talks on Peace

Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin said Monday that a durable peace could be achieved in Somalia only if all rival parties come to the negotiating table in accordance with the decision made by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin said Monday that a durable peace could be achieved in Somalia only if all rival parties come to the negotiating table in accordance with the decision made by the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

The minister made the remarks here in a meeting with visiting newly elected Prime Minister of the Somali transitional government Hassan Abshir Farah.

Seyoum said Ethiopia would press ahead with its efforts to bring peace and national reconciliation in Somalia, noting that all parties in Somalia should work together for the prevalence of lasting peace under the auspices of the decision made by the eighth summit of IGAD heads of state and government.

Hassan, after the meeting with Seyoum, said that the collective efforts of Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti and the Sudan were indispensable to bring about peace and reconciliation in Somalia.

He said that the talks with Seyoum focused on ways of integrating the four countries endeavors towards achieving the much desired peace in Somalia.
