U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will visit Russia and Romania next week on his eight- day trip to Europe, the State Department announced on Monday.

Powell will leave on December 3 for Bucharest, Romania, to take part in a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, State Department spokesman Richard Boucher told reporters at a regular news briefing.

"He will be stopping in Turkey; be going to Brussels, Belgium, for NATO meetings and NATO-EU meetings; going on to Moscow and then other stops, which will be announced later," Boucher said.

"I'm sure there are a lot of questions about the future of Afghanistan and what role the outside world can play that will come up during the course of this trip," Boucher added.

Powell will finish his trip to Europe and return to Washington on December 10.
