U.S. President George W. Bush said Monday that Iraq needs to let U.N. weapons inspectors back to the country to show it is not developing weapons of mass destruction.

"As for Mr. Saddam Hussein, he needs to let inspectors back into his country to show us that he is not developing weapons of mass destruction," Bush said at the White House, adding that Saddam will find out what the consequences are if he refuses to cooperate on the issue.

Bush vowed that Washington will not only go after countries which harbor terrorists but also those that "develop weapons of mass destruction that will be used to terrorize nations."

Bush's remarks are of significance amid speculations that Iraq might be the next target of U.S. military strikes in the on-going war against terrorism.

Iraq expelled the U.N. weapons inspectors in 1998 and has been refusing to allow them back ever since.
