Lu Hui, a victim of Pajero V31's brake failure, left her home in central China's Hunan Province for Beijing Monday afternoon for compensation negotiations with representatives from Japan's Mitsubishi Motor Vehicle Co.

Lu was seriously injured in a car accident caused by brake failure in her Pajero V31 in December last year.

She was forced to leave hospital in August because she could not afford the high medical expenses.

Lu has been diagnosed as being first-degree handicapped. She refused Mitsubishi's "humanitarian" offer of 120,000 yuan, and is still short of funds for hospital care.

Pajero V31, a model produced by Mitsubishi Motor Vehicle, has been acknowledged by the company to have defective brakes which may lead to a brake malfunction or even failure in driving.

After the accident, Zhou Jianhong, Lu's husband, repeatedly informed Mitsubishi's Beijing office that they could not afford the medical costs, hoping Lu's treatment would not be delayed.

Although Mitsubishi apologized in August to Chinese consumers for its defective cars, the company turned a deaf ear to Zhou's requirement for immediate compensation.

Lu's husband said that since the Chinese government announced an import ban of Mitsubishi's Pajero V31 and V33 models in a circular in February this year, he has never given up the thought of resorting to legal means to win compensation.
