Kandahar-Spin Boldak Highway Captured by Opposition: Taliban

An Afghan Taliban spokesman confirmed on Monday that the highway between Kandahar city and border town Spin Boldak has been captured by the opposition forces,according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

An Afghan Taliban spokesman confirmed on Monday that the highway between Kandahar city and border town Spin Boldak has been captured by the opposition forces,according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The unidentified spokesman told AIP that the highway was captured by the opposition forces on Sunday and now it's completely cut off.

He said Takhta Pul, a strategic town near Kandahar city, had also been captured by the Northern Alliance forces after severe bombing by the U.S. warplanes.

Quoting people coming from Spin Boldak, the AIP said a group of US commandos had arrived in the border town and helicopters wereseen with them.
