Dostum's Forces Take Over Taliban-Controled Kunduz

Two thousand and five hundred troops of the renowned Northern Alliance commander Abdul Rashid Dostum have entered Kunduz city and taken control of the last Taliban stronghold in the north, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) on Sunday.

Two thousand and five hundred troops of the renowned Northern Alliance commander Abdul Rashid Dostum have entered Kunduz city and taken control of the last Taliban stronghold in the north, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) on Sunday.

Two thousand Northern Alliance troops arrived in Kunduz Saturday night under an agreement between the Taliban and commander Dostum, while further 500 arrived on Sunday morning, said the AIP.

It said the opposition forces entered the city from the west and had controlled 70 percent of the city.

According to the AIP, commander Dostum is expected to arrive in Kunduz on Sunday.
