Jin Na/Hou Yingshu, who dominated all the domestic duet events, overwhelmed both the audience and judges at the Tianhe Swimming Gymnasium and won the title with 94.954 points.

Qian Zhenhua from Shanghai claimed the gold of men's modern pentathlon with 5,602 points, while men's and women's singles gold in trampoline respectively went to Zheng Xiaojun from Fujian and Ma Jiyou of Hunan, who finished the national games debut event gracefully.

In the 86km women's individual road cycling, Jiang Yanxia from Liaoning dashed to the gold in two hours 21 minutes and 49.969 seconds, and hosting Guangdong tasted its first gold in men's field hockey. However, the day was marred by one more doping scandal, as the urine sample A of Du Yunhe, a member of the kayaking team from southwest China's Guizhou Province had been tested positive of the banned drug of steroid in an earlier doping test, announced the organizers of the games.

The whole team had all of their competition results annulled and Du was immediately disqualified from the games. The organizers' statistics indicated that a total of 12,314 athletes from 45 delegations took part in the preliminaries of the current national games, which is to close here on Sunday.

The finals that took place in the 15 cities across Guangdong, with Guangzhou as the center, witnessed 8,608 competitors, nearly 1,000 more than the previous national games. Plus coaches, judges, officials and journalists attending the event, the participants in the current national games totaled more than 20,000.

The 9th National Games saw 24 athletes surpassing 7 world records, mostly in weightlifting. It also witnessed six athletes and one team upsetting six Asian records and 28 athletes surpassing 9 Asian records. Meanwhile, a total of 37 national records were renewed. The host Guangdong delegation was placed first in the medal tally with 69.5 golds, followed by Liaoning with 41 golds and the Chinese Army with 33 golds.
