Chinese Premier Greets Singaporean Counterpart on Reappointment

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji Friday sent a congratulatory message to Goh Chok Tong on the occasion of his reappointment as Singapore's prime minister.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji Friday sent a congratulatory message to Goh Chok Tong on the occasion of his reappointment as Singapore's prime minister.

"In the past years, under the leadership of Your Excellency, the Government and the people of Singapore have made remarkable achievements in the national construction and economic development," said Zhu.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and Singapore have conducted fruitful and friendly exchanges and cooperation in various areas, which have brought tangible interests to the two peoples, Zhu added.

The Chinese premier expressed confidence that Singapore will overcome the current temporary difficulties and make fresh headway in the coming years. He also pledged to join hands with his Singaporean counterpart to bring the friendly and mutually beneficial relations and cooperation between China and Singapore to a new high.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan also sent greetings to his Singaporean counterpart, Prof. S. Jayakumar, on his reappointment as foreign minister of the Southeast Asian nation.
