President Yoweri Museveni saidUgandan soldiers are to be deployed along the Uganda-Kenya and Uganda-Sudan borders to ensure that there is no external aggression against the Karimojong cattle rustlers in the northeastern region, the New Vision newspaper reported on Wednesday.

President Museveni said the Uganda Peoples' Defense Forces soldiers will be permanently deployed from Amudat in Nakapiripiritdistrict to Karenga in Kotido to ensure that tribes hostile to theKarimojong do not attack them after the Karimojong are disarmed.

Museveni, now on a five-day tour of Karamoja region, said the National Resistance Movement (NRM) government had matured and is able to defend the country against any external aggression.

"This government, unlike the previous ones, is not fragile. It has consolidated and will protect the lives and property of all Ugandans," Museveni said.

He said local defense units will be deployed at the sub counties to provide internal security.

The president appealed to the Karimojong to work hand in hand with the government to ensure that the guns are removed so that the region enjoys peace, security and development.
