2001 Shanghai Asian Music Festival Opens

The fourth Shanghai Asian Music Festival, attended by singers and musicians from more than 10 Asian countries, opened Monday night in Shanghai.

The fourth Shanghai Asian Music Festival, attended by singers and musicians from more than 10 Asian countries, opened Monday night in Shanghai.

Beginning in 1991, the event was designed to push forward pop music in Asia, discover talented new singers and boost the music market against pirating.

During the festival, a number of competitions and seminars willbe held, including the "Asian fresh singers' competition", "youth singing group competition" and the "anti-pirating concert by singer stars."

According to a festival organization committee, 22 singers and 16 youth singing groups from 8 Asian countries will participate inthe competitions.

As a major event of the music festival, the anti-pirating concert featuring renowned singers from home and abroad will be held on the night of November 24 to boost the pop industry's anti-pirating campaign.
