Heavy Storm Sweeps New South Wales in Australia

Thousands of homes in New South Wales state of Australia are without power after ferocious storms.
According to a report by the Australian Associated Press, areas around Sydney and Newcastle were worst hit by the strong winds and heavy rain, which began late on Sunday.

Thousands of homes in New South Wales state of Australia are without power after ferocious storms.

Storm swept a vast area of the state during the past two days left a man dead and hundreds of house damaged.

According to a report by the Australian Associated Press, areas around Sydney and Newcastle were worst hit by the strong winds and heavy rain, which began late on Sunday.

It was forecast that the storm would continue.

Parts of the state were declared Monday by the state government disaster areas.

The State Emergency Service reportedly received nearly 5,300 calls for help. A 30-year-old father of two was badly injured late on Sunday when a tree hit his car and sent the vehicle careering into a fence in Sydney's south-west. He died early Monday at Hospital.

A second man suffered a heart attack while fixing the storm- damaged roof of his home in western Sydney and was in a critical condition.
