A Proposal Approved to Accelerate Stockbreeding Development

China's State Council has approved a proposal by the Ministry of Agriculture on speeding up the development of China's stockbreeding industry.

The proposal said strengthening the stockbreeding industry is important for the restructuring of the agricultural sector, creating jobs in rural areas, raising farmers' incomes and satisfying the expanding market for stockbreeding products.

More Efforts Needed for the Industry

It called for the promotion of high-quality breeds and the establishment of facilities for fine-breed development, feed production and safety supervision, as well as the prevention of animal epidemics.

The proposal urged more efforts for protecting pastures from abuse, and strengthening technological research and training, as well as the application of advanced technologies.

Efforts should also be taken to encourage the development of major animal products processing enterprises and an open and unified national market for stock products, according to the proposal.

It's reported the development of stockbreeding is facing the shortage of the forest area, grassland degradation, soil erosion, desertification and difficulties in the protection of rare and endangered species of wild animals and plants. Thus, the further strengthening of the preservation of the ecological environment and biodiversity remains an important task for the Chinese government to tackle.
