Zhongyuan Star, China's most advanced bullet train so far, was put into operation Sunday morning between Zhengzhou, capital city of Hebei Province and Wuchang, a city of Hubei Province, ending the history of no bullet train running on Beijing-Guangzhou railway.
Stable, comfortable and environment-friendly, the train is able to run at the maximum speed of 160 km and is the fastest railway transportation vehicle in China.
The train, carrying six coaches with a total of 548 seats, can travel as fast as 160 kilometers an hour, according to Feng Lingyun, head of the Zhengzhou Railway Bureau.
The new coaches represent a breakthrough in several key technologies, and are the first electrically-driven coaches developed by China itself, the official said.
In addition, the new coaches boast adjustable seats, a snack bar and other modern luxuries with human-oriented designs, the official said.
The new coaches were jointly developed by the Zhengzhou Railway Bureau, the Changchun-based Sifang Coach Manufacturing Company, the Zhuzhou Electrical Engineering Plant and the Zhuzhou Electrical Engineering Research Institute.
