French Defense Minister Alain Richard said Thursday French troops will join international security forces in Afghanistan within days. "It is a question of days," said Richard when asked whether France will dispatch troops to Afghanistan.

"There will be a contribution from France in association with other countries of the coalition in order to set up a base of security for the re-establishment of infrastructures and conditions of normal life in the north," he added.

The remark of Richard echoes the speech of French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine, who said Wednesday in New York that France does not exclude the possibility of joining the international force that might be sent in urgency to assure the security in Afghanistan.
