Vice Premier on State Enterprise Reform

During a study tour in northeast China's Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces from November 5 to 10, vice-Premier Wu Bangguo has called for deepening the reform of state-owned enterprises while strengthening the social security mechanism.

Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo has called for deepening the reform of state-owned enterprises while strengthening the social security mechanism.

Wu made the remarks during a study tour in northeast China's Heilongjiang and Liaoning provinces from November 5 to 10.

During the tour, Wu visited a number of state-owned companies and held meetings on the issues with local officials and company leaders.

The vice premier praised the provinces for their efforts in deepening the reform, restructuring industries, strengthening management, improving the social security mechanism, and handling the issue of reorganizing the lay-offs well.

The state sector has achieved a relatively fast growth in the first nine months of this year, reporting 173.7 billion yuan in profits, up 8.4 percent over the corresponding period last year, according to Wu.
