Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Friday in Beijing with Laurent Fabius, French minister of economy, finance and industry, who remarked on the astonishing changes evident in modern day China.
Jiang highly spoke of the Sino-French relationship, saying that bilateral relations have shown a good momentum of overall development over recent years. The frequent exchanges and communications between leaders of the two countries have resulted in the constant growth of the ties.
He said that France is one of China's major trade partners, and Sino-French trade volume has been growing for many years. The complementary aspects between the two countries' economic and trade fields and China's imminent accession into the World Trade Organization will provide a numerous opportunities for bilateral economic and trade cooperation.
In addition, the two sides have also been extremely successful in their cooperation in culture, education, science and technology and other fields, he added.
He said that China and France should continue to develop friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation and develop a long- standing relationship based on respect, equality and mutual benefit.
Fabius said that he has visited China many times over the past two decades, but on this visit he witnessed the greatest changes. France pays special attention to France-China cooperation and is willing to promote the relationship, especially in the economic and financial fields.
Fabius came to China for a four-day visit at the invitation of Xiang Huaicheng, Chinese minister of finance.
