Electrochemical gas sensors made in China have met international standards, thanks to the sustained efforts of Chinese scientists in this sector.

The appraisal came from a group of experts who were in Changchun recently to assess a research project on electrochemical gas sensors, carried out by Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry (CIAP), a research body under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Electro-chemical gas sensors can be used in safety check-up, environment surveillance and production control in mining, chemical and military industries.

Experts said the sensor, compact and easy to carry, is an improvement over optical and spectrum gas sensors as it can be used for instant and continuous detection and gives more accurate results.

CIAP's research started in 1999. To date, it has developed 10 types of electrochemical gas sensors.
