The organizers announced Wednesday in Guangzhou that helicopter services will be provided for media coverage of China's ninth National Games opening here on Sunday.
Such services are to be provided by a Chinese company, which was the first time in the history of the quadrennial national sporting event that such service is provided by a corporate sponsor.
The organizers said that three choppers including two Bell 206s and one R44 shall provide a total of 50 hours of aerial services over the games' 15 venues in the southern Chinese province. Two of the helicopters shall be designated for the press while the other shall be ready for VIPs.
At the 1987 national games also staged in Guangzhou, one helicopter was rented for two hours of press coverage of the opening ceremony.
