The organizers of China's ninth National Games are worrying about a possible threat to the opening ceremony rehearsal by a tropical storm which has reportedly killed at least 33 and caused dozens missing in the Philippines.

The direction of tropical storm Lingling, which slammed across the Philippines' central and southern regions early on Wednesday and caused casualties and floods, remains uncertain, officials of the weather broadcast services department of the games' organizing committee. It is, therefore, not possible for the department now to predict if the typhoon could cause any delay to the rehearsal Thursday evening, of the games' opening ceremony slated for Sunday.

If there is predicted to be a heavy storm for the games' opening day, the organizers shall decide if a delay for the ceremony to be necessary.
