Norio Ohga, a well-known music conductor and chairman of the board of Sony Corporation, was hospitalized here Wednesday evening for cerebral hemorrhage.

He is now being treated at the Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital in Beijing.

Ohga, also chairman of Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra, fell on the stage when he was conducting the orchestra at a local theater as part of the ongoing Fourth Beijing Music Festival.

A doctor among the audience rushed up the stage to help take care of Ohga and a number of people offered first-aid medicine.

Doctors from the Beijing First-Aid Center arrived at the theater in a few minutes and rushed Ohga to the hospital.

City officials including a vice mayor, who were present at the performance, visited the musician at the hospital and asked doctors to do their best for him.

The Japanese conductor was also scheduled to perform in Thursday's closing of the music gala, according to sources. Zhang Guoyong, a noted musician from Shanghai, will replace the Japanese as the conductor for the closing program, the sources said.
