BEIJING, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior Chinese leader Friday urged the country's procurators to consider people's interests as their top priority in work.

Zhou Yongkang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks during a forum held on Friday to mark the 80th anniversary of the forming of China's socialist procuratorial system.

Procurators should work diligently to safeguard the people's rights and interests, uphold justice and equity, maintain social security and fight against corruption, he said.

He told the procurators to use socialist theories as guidelines in their work and be more active in supervising law enforcement to ensure that the country's laws are properly enforced.

Party organizations should help procuratorates to perform their duties in a legal, independent and fair manner, Zhou said.
