"I feel so lucky. Thank the Chinese doctors very much for curing me. That is the best gift they gave us for our wedding anniversary," said Dothan, who had been cured and was about to leave the hospital, expressing his appreciation together with his wife Kathy to the doctors and nurses on the ship.

That was the touching scene that occurred in the intensive care unit on the Chinese Navy's Peace Ark hospital ship on Nov. 2, 2011.

On Nov. 1, doctors successfully performed a varicosity operation on Dothan on the Peace Ark hospital ship. Nov. 2 is the wedding anniversary for Dothan and Kathy, and the medical care personnel of the ship presented flowers and their best wishes to the couple.

The 21-year-old Dothan is a pastry maker of a Chinese bakery, and he had suffered the varicosity for five years. Due to the economic conditions of his family, he postponed going to the hospital until it was nearly too late. Not long ago, they heard that a Chinese hospital ship would come to Jamaica to carry out medical care services, which seemed like an answer to their prayers.

Jiang Futing, an expert of the ship hospital's outpatient department, succeeded in performing an operation for him at an operating room at 11 p.m. of the same day. Dothan's wife kissed his face and said on the early morning of the following day, "Do you feel better now? Today is our wedding anniversary and I wish you good health." When Jiang visited Dothan at his bedside, the couple held his hands and repeated the Chinese words "thank you" that they just learned.

Dothan told reporters that doctors and nurses at the ship hospital were very warm and considerate and made him feel at home. The medical personnel have not only conducted comprehensive physical examinations for him, but they have also provided him with local food to help him to recover as soon as possible. Dothan said, "I have never experienced such excellent medical services."

"Although I am going to leave the ship hospital, I will never forget my Chinese friends for the rest of my life," Dothan said.
