The developed degree in the era of science and technology is determined by convenient traffic and leading communication mode. In the Xi'an High-tech Zone, smooth is a fitting adjective to describe the communications there.

Located in the geographic center of China as the key traffic hub connecting eastern and western China, Xi'an has formed the modern vertical traffic network consisted of aviation, railway, and road. In 2012, Xi'an made great efforts to carry out projects to eliminate traffic jams and guarantee smoothness, in which Xi'an completed the transformation of 65 road segments and intersections and 64 public transportation stations and constructed the bus transit lane of 43.8 km and 8,992 public parking spaces. The new Xi'an Cheng Nan Coach Station was put into official operation. The pilot work of the "Public Transit Metropolis" was carried out in order.

Aviation

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport is one of the 6 key airports in China, at which 27 air companies run their business. At present, 167 domestic lines and 27 international lines are opened. Annual passenger flow volume exceeds 10 million. In 2012, the passenger throughput was 23 million. The growth in passenger throughput ranked third, and the total volume stably ranked eighth among all domestic airports. The cargo throughput of the airport reached 170,000 ton.

Aviation planning of Big Xi'an: build up the second civil airport for the city in good time.

Xi'an Xianyang International Airport will be built into a big aviation hub of the world. Thus, Xi'an will become the air portal connecting the world with various regions in China and become a key node of the global aviation network. The airport will enable convenient transfers between airport, road, railway, urban road, public transit systems, and rail rapid transit will be enhanced. In 2020, the annual passenger throughput will exceed 45 million and the terminal of 400,000 km2 will be built up.

Railway

Xi'an Railway Station is the biggest railway hub in western China, connecting railway lines including Ganshu-Lianyungang Line, Xi'an-Ankang Line, Nanjing-Xi'an Line, Baotou-Xi'an Line, Houma-Xi'an Line, and Xianyang-Tongchuan Line, and Xi'an-Huxian Line. Trains to Lhasa from regions including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing must go through Xi'an Railway Station. Xi'an North Railway Station is already put into official use. Along with the construction of national high-speed railway network, Xi'an will construct the "One-day Traffic Circle" with other cities. At that time, it takes only 30 minutes by high-speed rail from Xi'an to key cities in the province such as Baoji and Hanzhong, 1 hour to the city group in the central Shaanxi Plain, 1.5 hours to Zhengzhou, 2 hours to Lanzhou, Taiyuan, and Chengdu, 3.5 hours to Nanjing, Hefei, and Wuhan, and 4.5 hours to Shanghai. In 2012, the passenger throughput reached 29.18 million and the cargo throughput was nearly 8.25 million ton.

Big Xi'an railway plan: A "One horizontal line, one vertical line, ten radiations" railway network will be built

One horizontal line: Gansu-Lianyungang Line

One vertical line: Baotou-Liuzhou Line (Baotou-Xi'an Line, Xi'an-Ankang Line, Ankang-Chongqing Line)

Ten radiations: Zhengzhou-Xi'an Passenger Line, Xi'an-Lanzhou Passenger Line, Datong-Xi'an Passenger Line, Xi'an-Chengdu Passenger Line, Datong-Chongqing Passenger Line, Xi'an-Wuhan Passenger Line, Xi'an-Yinchuan Line, Nanjing-Xi'an Line, Houma-Yanliang Line, Xi'an-Pingliang Line.

Highway

Highways are constructed to form an arrangement in which Xi'an is the center with 9 intersected national highways, forming a high-class asterisk-shaped radial trunk highway system passing through province and radiating surrounding provinces and cities. There are highways of 2800 kilometers, including 6 national highways. Round-City Highway, Airport Highway, the 2nd Ring Road and the 3rd Ring Road are completely linked up. Urban areas and counties are all accessible by highway.

Metro

Xi'an Metro's Line 2 was officially launched in 2011. Metro Line 1 was expected to be completed in 2013. The construction of Metro Line 3 was already started in 2011. Xi'an has entered into the metro era and will become the first city in northwestern China to boast metro transportation. In 2012, Xi'an completed urban construction investment of RMB25.16 billion. Metro 1 line completed "electric connection and rail connection." Work already began on the construction of entire Metro Line 3 and the trial segment of Metro Line 4.

Big Xi'an rail rapid transit planning: "one axis, one ring, V-shaped framework"

One axis: Xi'an as central, passing through Baoji, Yangling, Xingping, Xianyang, Weinan, Huaying etc, forming a "line-shaped" axis along Ganshu-Lianyungang Line.

One ring: Xi'an – Sanyuan –Tongchuan, Xi'an – Lantian – Shangluo, connecting the east section of Guanzhong North Ring Line, Weinan – Yanliang – Sanyuan – Jingyang – Airport Guanzhong, connecting Guanzhong South Ring Line, Neixian – Zhouzhi – Huxian – Changan – lingtong Guanzhong south ring, connecting interurban railways including Baoji – Fengxiang – Qishan – Famen Temple to form Guanzhong Ring Line

V framework: Xi'an as central, radiating from Yanliang to Tongchan and Pucheng to form V shape interurban railway framework.
