Sino-African cooperation, what’s the next step? 


The Fifth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is being held in Beijing from July 19 to 20. People's Daily Online (PD Online) interviewed Ren Xiaoping (Ren), former Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, discussing the significance of Sino-African cooperation and FOCAC.

PD Online: What impressed you most during the three years when you lived in Africa as an ambassador to Namibia? Ren:Africa is a vast continent full of mysteries and charm. Due to centuries of colonial domination, Africa was in the abyss of misery while the ever-developing continent nowadays embraces great potential and hopes.   Full Story

Chinese President meets UN chief Ban Ki-moon

President Hu Jintao on Wednesday met with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Ban is in Beijing for an official visit from July 17 to 19, as well as to attend the opening ceremony of the fifth Ministerial Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) on Thursday.

Hu said Ban is an old friend of China, adding that the leaders have met several times since Ban's appointment as secretary-general to exchange views on major international issues.

Hu said Ban's visit and attendance at the opening ceremony of the FOCAC meeting indicates that the UN chief has paid a great deal of attention to UN-China cooperation and strongly supports the new strategic partnership forged between China and African countries.

Chinese premier's speech at conference of Chinese and African entrepreneurs (full text)

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Wednesday delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony of the Fourth Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs entitled as "Deepen Result-Oriented Cooperation And Promote Common Development".

This is the third time for me to attend the Conference of Chinese and African Entrepreneurs. I am glad to see that exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese and African business communities have enjoyed such dynamic growth.
